🚨Cancún Crackdown: Public Drinking Spurs Arrests🍻

Public drinking in Cancún has been the leading cause for administrative arrests in the first quarter of 2024. Over half of these arrests are linked to this activity, with the hotel district seeing the most action. Over 1,500 adults have been detained, primarily in and around nightclubs.

The majority of these arrests have been carried out by the tourist police in the hotel district and the municipal authority in other parts of the city. Offenders can be held for up to 72 hours, with repeat offenders facing stiffer penalties. Authorities are predicting a 10% increase in arrests over the summer due to an expected rise in nightlife activity.

The busiest areas include those surrounding Arco Norte Avenue and regions 247, 251, 259, and 260. Most incidents happen during the night and on weekends, indicating a pattern linked to nightlife.

In anticipation of the expected rise in arrests over the summer, the municipal authority has announced plans to work with all levels of government. The goal of these operations is to decrease the number of arrests and maintain safety in high-activity areas, especially during peak tourist season.
