Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún is counting down to become the global epicenter of fitness racing as it prepares to host the “HYROX Cancún 2026” competition from March 13-15 at Malecón Tajamar, marking the first time the international franchise will hold an outdoor event.
Mayor Ana Paty Peralta personally inspected the circuit setup at the waterfront location, which will host more than 10,000 athletes in what organizers describe as a groundbreaking format for the competition.
“Cancún is absolutely ready to host the most spectacular sporting event of the year,” Peralta said during her tour. “This is being organized with tremendous dedication and commitment from the entire team to make HYROX Cancún 2026 happen for the first time in an outdoor setting.”
The mayor was accompanied by municipal tourism secretary Juan Pablo De Zulueta Razo during her inspection.
Economic and Tourism Impact
Peralta emphasized that HYROX Cancún 2026 positions the municipality as a leading destination for sports tourism. Officials expect more than 30,000 visitors between competitors and their companions, who will not only enjoy the competition but also benefit local restaurants and businesses in the area.
De Zulueta Razo highlighted the strategic importance of the location: “It’s an honor to compete with Cancún’s natural beauty as the backdrop. This will significantly help hotel occupancy near Malecón Tajamar, generating substantial economic benefits for the city.”
A Milestone for Global Fitness Racing
Juan Carlos Urquiza, operations director for HYROX Mexico, called this edition a “world reference event.” He explained that while the competition takes place in more than 60 countries, Cancún marks a historic milestone as the first time it will be held facing the Caribbean Sea.
“For the first time in Mexico, we have more than eight percent of participants coming from abroad, including Canada, the United States, and Europe,” Urquiza said.
What is HYROX?
Born in 2017 in Hamburg, Germany, HYROX is a fitness racing discipline that combines endurance and strength. The challenge for athletes at Malecón Tajamar will consist of:

- Farmer’s Carry
- Lunges with sandbag
- Wall ball throws
The objective is to complete the circuit in the shortest time possible, testing both cardiovascular capacity and physical and mental strength of each participant.
