Cancun, Quintana Roo — With Holy Week approaching, the Cancun government has begun organizing to accommodate the religious activities traditionally held during this period.

The Directorate of Religious Affairs of Benito Juárez is already working on receiving and reviewing applications from churches that plan to hold events, pilgrimages, or public performances during the season.

So far, two main activities have been confirmed: a celebration that takes place in the traditional way at Playa Delfines and an event organized by the Anglican Church.

However, authorities estimate that the number of applications will increase in the coming days, especially from Catholic communities that usually organize processions and religious tours in different parts of the city.

In previous years, the municipality has received between 15 and 25 requests to hold religious events in public spaces. Most of them correspond to walks, Stations of the Cross, and other performances that take place in neighborhoods and avenues of the city.

In anticipation of the expected increase in activities, the municipal agency also launched training sessions aimed at representatives and coordinators of churches. The aim is to strengthen security and prevention measures at events that bring together a large number of people. These actions are carried out in conjunction with the General Directorate of Civil Protection of Benito Juárez.

Municipal authorities indicated that they will continue to provide support, advice, and assistance to the various religious congregations so that Holy Week celebrations can take place in an orderly, safe, and respectful manner towards the public.
