Cancún Launches Futbol Fest 2026 to Build World Cup Excitement

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipality has launched the Cancún Futbol Fest Mundial 2026, a community soccer tournament designed to build excitement for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and strengthen local sports participation.

The tournament will feature over 70 local teams representing different countries, creating an international-style competition in Cancún. Registrations have closed with strong interest from the community.

During a press conference, Alejandro Luna López, director general of the Benito Juárez Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, said the initiative is part of Mayor Ana Paty Peralta’s strategy to boost sports involvement among children, youth, and families in Cancún.

“Sports are a powerful tool for social transformation and rebuilding community ties. This tournament offers a chance for new generations to develop talent, discipline, and values,” Luna López said.

Tournament Details

The participating categories include:

  • 35 teams in the Older Youth division
  • 15 teams in the Women’s Open division
  • 25 teams in the Men’s Open division

Each squad will represent a country, adding an international flair and fostering sports pride among participants.

Venues Across Cancún

Matches will take place at various fields across the municipality to bring the tournament closer to different neighborhoods. Confirmed venues are:

  • Synthetic turf field in SM 221
  • Los Olivos field in SM 99
  • Field in SM 103
  • Tules synthetic field in SM 248
  • Omni field in SM 217

Schedule and Support

The opening ceremony will be held at the Cancún 86 field at 6:00 p.m., with the final scheduled for May 29 at the field in Supermanzana 21.

Organizers also unveiled the tournament’s official jerseys, inspired by the three host nations of the 2026 World Cup: Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Former soccer players backed the event, including ex-professional Carlos Calvo and former Pioneros de Cancún player Arturo Córdoba. Jesús Chay, operational coordinator of the Sports Institute, and Víctor Domínguez, tournament coordinator, also participated in the presentation.
