Cancún’s Golden Book Relaunched with Football Edition

Cancún's Golden Book relaunched for the city's 56th anniversary

Cancún, Mexico — The Cancún Founders Association has relaunched the Golden Book of Cancún, originally published for the city’s 50th anniversary and now reissued for its 56th year. The volume features testimonials from the first inhabitants who built the community, and in the context of the World Cup, there will be a special edition focusing on football in the city.

Macarena Carretero, president of this civil association, explained that the book collects the voices of more than 100 authors, with the most interesting testimonies from Cancún’s history. Its pages will revive anecdotes from Rafael Rodríguez Horcasitas, who was appointed by the National Football Federation to process construction permits for the current stadiums, in addition to doing everything possible to ensure the city had a third-division team with Pioneros de Cancún.

This occurs within the framework of the Football World Cup to be held in Mexico, thus recalling the beginnings and actions to promote sports in Quintana Roo.

She recalled that Cancún was founded along with four other Integrally Planned Centers (CIP) in other states of the country, but Cancún stood out despite being designed under the same objectives as the others.

“What happened if the five cities were designed to emerge with the same impetus; well, in Cancún, due to its geographical location, people arrived from everywhere; but no one told us what we had to do; we arrived like the Montessori method, each person did what they had to do or what they liked most.”

The launch of a documentary about Cancún by Víctor Vera, editor of Cancún Tips magazine, was also announced, along with other activities such as Cancún’s Largest Picnic, which last year featured approximately 80 Cancún artists and for 2026 is expected to match or exceed that number.
