Cancún, Mexico — The State Employment Service in Cancún has warned the public, especially young people, to verify that job opportunities offered through social media are legitimate, as many cases and complaints of false job postings that do not match the advertised work have been reported.
Taydé Rojas, head of the agency, acknowledged that there are many fake job offers in Cancún on social media, which can be easily identified because they offer very high salaries for working few hours.
“This is being recorded in the construction area, as well as in digital promotion jobs for various articles, so the call is to verify what it is about,” she explained.
“If you are looking for a real and secure job, you can check those from the municipal or state employment service, corroborate that the company offering that ‘extraordinary’ opportunity actually exists,” she emphasized.
She said that this year has been quite positive in terms of job opportunities, as 7 out of every 10 people who go to the State Employment Service in Cancún manage to connect with a company.
Despite being mid-December, she said, the demand for work, from locals and nationals, as well as foreigners, increased by 25 percent.
She commented that during this year many foreigners arrived, mainly Cubans and Venezuelans, looking for a job opportunity.
“However, they first have to regularize themselves, that is, process their documentation so they can work legally in the country,” she stated.
She said that once they have their documents, the same agency connects them with companies so they can get a job, like any Mexican citizen.
She assured that, although there are no longer job fairs, the “Get Employed in Your Office” program continues in Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún, where hotel and commercial companies continue hiring, as the high winter season lasts until February.
She commented that 30% of applicants who do not get a job is due to various factors such as lack of school documents and not meeting the profile required for the job.
“For them, we offer training courses where they are taught how to correctly prepare a modern resume, because many arrive with very lengthy ones,” she said.
They are also trained to present themselves at job interviews, the type of clothing they should wear, the colors, and how to answer questions.
