Cancún Dentist Killed in Crime of Passion, Prosecutors Say; Two Arrested

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two men have been arrested in the shooting death of a 55-year-old dentist outside a shopping plaza in downtown Cancún, an attack that state prosecutors say was motivated by a personal dispute.

The victim was officially identified as Jesús “N,” who was gunned down in the parking lot of Plaza Galerías on Avenida Tulum in Supermanzana 2, where he kept his dental practice, according to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspects were identified as Yael, 30, known by the alias “El Pelón,” who prosecutors describe as the alleged gunman, and Jordan, 25, a foreign national accused of acting as a lookout. Both were turned over to a control judge. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and that more people may be involved.

How the Attack Unfolded

According to the prosecutors’ reconstruction of the events, the two men met at an apartment in Supermanzana 98 on the morning of the killing to plan the attack.

Yael then allegedly rode a moped to the dental office to identify the victim. Investigators say he walked in posing as a patient and even paid 1,100 pesos for a dental cleaning.

He later went to a store on Avenida Nichupté, where he bought three long gabardine-style raincoats and two plasticized hats. Authorities said he apparently used the clothing to shield himself from the rain and conceal his identity. He returned to the dental office, left the moped there — it has since been seized — and walked to the parking lot.

While he waited, Yael pretended to collect trash and search a dumpster, prosecutors said. Jordan, meanwhile, allegedly stayed inside the plaza keeping watch to warn him when the dentist came out.

Investigators said Jesús left his office and walked to his car, a white Seat Ibiza. As he opened the trunk to place a black box inside, Yael allegedly approached from behind and fired seven shots with a 9mm handgun.

Authorities said the motive appears to have been a personal dispute but declined to provide further details. Prosecutors said the case remains open as they work to determine the involvement of others and carry out additional arrests.
