Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún International Airport is modernizing its immigration control processes with the installation of 40 biometric e-gates and an expansion of traditional filters, Governor Mara Lezama announced.
The state governor said this strategy, developed in coordination with the National Migration Institute (INM), aims to speed up visitor entry, enhance security, and improve the experience for arrivals in Quintana Roo.
Terminal 4 will increase from four to 20 e-gates, with 10 currently operating under this system. Terminal 3 already has 16 e-gates, and officials expect to complete the migration to the new system in the coming weeks to reach 20 automated filters there as well.
Simultaneously, traditional immigration filters will rise from 48 to 54 to handle the flow of national and international tourists to the destination.
Lezama noted that the modernization includes not only automated immigration control but also strengthened closed-circuit video surveillance systems and increased oversight in secondary review processes to ensure transparency and efficiency.
“We are making immigration control systems faster and more modern,” the governor said, highlighting that Quintana Roo is one of Mexico’s main entry points for international tourism.
She emphasized that these actions are part of a strategy to ensure travelers find order, security, and dignified treatment upon arrival in a state aiming to consolidate itself as a global tourism reference.
“Quintana Roo is Mexico’s gateway to the world. That’s why we continue working every day so that every person who arrives in our land finds order, security, and dignified treatment,” Lezama stated.
The governor added that the goal is for visitors to perceive a faster, more modern, and secure reception at the Mexican Caribbean airport from the moment they arrive.
