Passenger Rights for Delayed or Canceled Flights

Under Mexico’s Civil Aviation Law, airlines are required to provide clear and timely information to passengers and offer compensation for disruptions caused by the carrier.

For delays, the airline must inform passengers of the reason and estimated departure time. Depending on the length of the delay, passengers may be entitled to phone calls and emails, food and beverages, and even accommodation and ground transportation if the wait is prolonged.

If a flight is canceled due to the airline’s fault, passengers can choose among:

  • Refund: Full ticket refund plus compensation as required by law.
  • Alternative transport: Rebooking on the next available flight at no extra cost.
  • Rescheduling: A new itinerary on a date chosen by the passenger without penalty.

Travelers are advised to check their flight status via the airline’s app or airport information screens before heading to the terminal.
