Campeche — Approximately 300 soldiers belonging to the Campeche battalion of Mexico’s National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) departed on Sunday for various northern states of the country. The mobilization comes after statements from U.S. President Donald Trump about the possibility of sending military forces into Mexican territory.
Following instructions from the Mexican government leadership, the troops left from the 33rd Military Zone, located in Campeche, and transferred to the “Ing. Alberto Acuña Ongay” International Airport. From there, they boarded two Boeing 737 commercial flights that took them to their destinations in northern Mexico.
The deployed soldiers are part of a contingent from the Campeche battalion that, according to Sedena, has instructions to reinforce surveillance along the northern border, though the operation maintains a preventive character.
Official sources emphasize that the mobilization seeks to guarantee security and protect national sovereignty against any eventuality, maintaining coordination with local and federal authorities in receiving states.
Sedena reiterated that the deployment is part of its regular security and territorial defense functions, and that it will continue monitoring the situation in coordination with the Secretariat of Foreign Relations, with no direct conflict expected in the region.
