Cancún, Mexico — The organization Pepenice has launched the ninth edition of its campaign “Tus útiles aún son útiles” (Your Supplies Are Still Useful) to benefit the community center Arrecifes Comparte in Playa del Carmen. The initiative aims to collect used school materials and recyclable paper to support 32 children attending the center.
Reuse for a Good Cause
Alejandra Corona, director of Pepenice, explained that the campaign’s primary goal is to prevent tons of paper from ending up in landfills while simultaneously aiding children who lack access to new school supplies.
“Many children at the center do not have easy access to new school materials. Reusing what others no longer need can make a significant difference in their education and the environment,” Corona stated.
Goal: Collect 20 Tons
This year’s target is to gather at least 20 tons of materials, including books, notebooks, magazines, flyers, and outdated corporate documents. Several companies have already contributed by donating small boxes of obsolete paperwork, and the campaign remains open to families, schools, businesses, and individuals interested in supporting the cause.
Drop-off points include the CAPA (Water and Sewer Commission) offices in Cancún’s Polígono Sur and Yaxchilán Avenue.
“The idea is for more households and businesses to join—they can donate or even serve as temporary collection centers to facilitate the process,” Corona added.
Environmental Benefits
Beyond its social impact, the campaign has a strong environmental component: each ton of recycled paper saves up to 25,000 liters of water, promoting more responsible resource management.
