Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The long-distance bus company Del Valle is facing accusations of negligence after a man died this weekend in an accident in Puerto Aventuras, allegedly caused by one of its drivers. Family members state that the company is refusing to cover the funeral expenses.

The tragic incident occurred this past Sunday at the entrance to the Puerto Maya subdivision, when the driver of a Del Valle bus rear-ended a parked truck. The victim had been underneath the truck, inspecting the vehicle, at the time of the collision.

According to initial reports, the accident may have been caused by the bus driver falling asleep at the wheel.

Local residents and transport workers expressed their consternation over the violent nature of the man's death, as he was crushed beneath the tires of the bus.

Family members emphasized that this is not the first incident caused by operators of the company, generating indignation and distrust within the community.

The victim's daughter has called on authorities to intervene urgently to ensure justice is served and that the company assumes its responsibility.

To date, the company has not issued any official statement regarding the accident or the pending funeral expenses.

Local organizations and users of long-distance transportation warn that a lack of sanctions and impunity in such cases could perpetuate risks for citizens, while victims and their families are left helpless following accidents that could be avoided with greater responsibility and control of operators.
