Brothers Clash in Machete Attack During Good Friday in Playa del Carmen

Police officers detaining a suspect at the scene of a machete attack in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A violent fight between brothers erupted on Good Friday afternoon in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, leaving one man injured with a machete wound and another in police custody.

The altercation began inside a multi-family dwelling on 35th Avenue and escalated when one of the brothers grabbed a machete and attacked the other, causing a wound to his arm. Neighbors, alarmed by the shouting, called emergency services.

Red Cross paramedics treated the injured man at the scene. Although the wound appeared serious, it was not life-threatening, and he did not require hospital transport. Despite the attack, the victim stated he would not file a formal complaint against his brother, which could limit legal action.

During the response, emergency personnel also treated a woman at the property who suffered a nervous breakdown from the incident, stabilizing her on site.

Residents in the area indicated the alleged aggressor had a history of similar behavior, having been involved in previous violent episodes that caused concern among neighbors.

Municipal police officers arrested the suspect and turned him over to authorities to determine his legal status. The case remains with the appropriate agencies, which will handle legal proceedings according to the law.
