Breathalyzer Returns to Quintana Roo Maya Zone

Breathalyzer equipment for traffic safety operations in José María Morelos

JOSÉ MARÍA MORELOS, MX. – The José María Morelos Traffic Department confirmed that the breathalyzer will begin to be used during the Guadalupe-Reyes operation, after being suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mauricio Gasca Reyes, director of this corporation, stated that personnel already have the required training and are only waiting for the delivery of the equipment to begin the inspection checkpoints.

The official noted that the breathalyzer will allow for more precise action during operations, by providing an exact measurement of blood alcohol levels.

“With the range of degrees we will have certainty to proceed as the law dictates,” he commented.

He added that these actions have a preventive nature and seek to safeguard the integrity of drivers and pedestrians, during the season of highest alcohol consumption.

Gasca Reyes recalled that, as part of the implemented scheme, drivers detected in an inconvenient state who cooperate and surrender their vehicle could avoid the infraction, although the vehicle will be retained until the next day.

Furthermore, he advanced that talks and awareness actions will continue in different communities, with the aim of reinforcing the message of not combining alcohol and steering wheel during the December holidays.
