CANCÚN, MX — A man, who was found bound and tortured in the Cuna Maya neighborhood, was admitted this morning to the General Hospital of this city.

It was around 9 a.m. when the man was found unconscious on a path connecting to Avenida Galaxias del Sol. According to unofficial data, the man has bruises on different parts of his body and injuries caused by a sharp or blunt object, in addition to being tied up with a rope.

Municipal police officers arrived at the scene following a call to 911 and were guided by neighbors to where the victim was lying.

After confirming that he still showed vital signs, the officers requested support from Red Cross paramedics, who stabilized the injured man and urgently transported him to the General Hospital.

Before being admitted to the hospital, he managed to recount that he had been deprived of his liberty since Monday, and had subsequently been taken to a safe house, where he was beaten and tied up by his assailants. According to his testimony, those responsible thought he had died and abandoned him in the area.

Elements of the Ministerial Police went to the hospital to take the injured man's statement; however, his state of health prevented him from providing further details.

The State Attorney General's Office has opened an investigation file and is already searching for surveillance cameras in the area to try to identify those responsible.
