Bacalar, Mexico — The construction of Bacalar's first commercial plaza has reached 80 percent completion. The project consists of a three-story building with 24 retail spaces, a coffee shop, an elevator, and a lookout point. It will be located in the heart of the city, on the main avenue just meters from the San Joaquín parish church.

Refugio Cano Gómez, the ejidal commissioner, emphasized that this development replaces old leased premises and addresses the need to modernize Bacalar's urban image without losing its identity as a Magical Town.

He highlighted the support of the municipal president, José Alfredo Contreras Méndez, in promoting infrastructure that supports the economic and touristic growth of the municipality.

"With the Maya Train and the works that are transforming Bacalar, we natives also want to contribute to this process of modernization, but while conserving our essence," stated Cano Gómez.

For his part, the ejidal treasurer, José Francisco Chin Castillo, assured that the project was well received by the assembly, as it represents an unprecedented commercial space in the municipality and an opportunity to strengthen the local economy.
