Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mexico — Ministerial authorities are investigating the illegal deprivation of liberty of three individuals that occurred this past weekend in Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Chetumal. Two of the victims have been located with signs of violence, while a third remains missing.
According to initial reports from the Vice Prosecutor's Office of Justice for the Central Zone, the cases appear to be related to score-settling between criminal groups operating in the central and southern regions of the state.
Details of the Incidents
The first incident was recorded on Saturday in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where Guillermo N was intercepted by several armed men while traveling on a motorcycle toward the highway to Valladolid. The assailants forced him into his own vehicle and took him to an unknown location.
His family reported the disappearance that same day, and the authorities activated a search alert. This alert was deactivated hours later after it was confirmed that the victim had been released with injuries caused by blows and cuts.
In another event, also occurring in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Orlando N, a fisherman originally from Cancún, was abducted in the Emiliano Zapata II neighborhood. There is currently no information on his whereabouts, and the official search remains active.
The third case was reported in Chetumal, where a man identified as P. G. P. was found tied up with cables in a brushy area near the Campos del Recuerdo cemetery. Elements of the State Preventive Police managed to rescue him and requested medical support. After confirming he had no serious injuries, he was released, although it is known that the individual has a criminal record for robbery.
Ongoing Investigation
The Ministerial Police are keeping the investigation files open and are analyzing whether the three events are related to the dispute between criminal cells for control of retail drug trafficking routes in the area.
