Chetumal, Mexico — A pickup truck was intentionally set on fire at dawn in the downtown Centro neighborhood of Chetumal. The alleged perpetrators fled the scene after committing the act, and no one has filed a complaint or claim for the burned vehicle so far.
The incident occurred before 6:00 a.m. on Héroes de Chapultepec street, between Miguel Hidalgo and 16 de Septiembre, just meters from the Subdelegation of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). This location increases the severity of the attack as it is a central and busy area.
According to unofficial information, an unidentified pickup truck and a motorcycle arrived together at the site. A subject got out of the first vehicle and ordered the motorcyclist to set the unit on fire, an action that was carried out immediately. Subsequently, both individuals left the scene in the pickup truck, heading toward Boulevard Bahía.
Witnesses alerted 911, leading to the mobilization of emergency services and security forces. By the time the fire was controlled, the pickup truck had been completely burned.
Although the motorcycle used in the attack was also consumed by the fire, authorities managed to identify its license plate, which belongs to a person residing in a community near Chetumal and is not reported stolen. This detail reinforces the hypothesis that it was a deliberate act and not a random event or related to vehicle theft.
So far, no one has claimed the burned pickup truck, nor has a formal complaint been filed with the ministerial authority. This combination of factors—the planning of the attack, the coordinated escape, and the absence of a complaint—has led initial lines of investigation to point to a possible score-settling or revenge motive.
Authorities are keeping the investigation open to clarify the motive and find those responsible.
