Authorities Capture ‘La Señora,’ Alleged Leader of Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel in Guanajuato

Police operation in Guanajuato leading to the arrest of alleged cartel leader María Guadalupe N.

Guanajuato, Mexico — Federal and state authorities have arrested María Guadalupe N., known as “La Señora” or “La Lupe,” an alleged leader of a Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel cell operating in central Mexico.

Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo confirmed the arrest, calling it a significant blow to the criminal organization’s structure in the state. She credited coordinated efforts between state security forces and federal agencies for the operation.

Preliminary reports indicate authorities conducted raids on several properties on Los Pinos Street, where they located and detained the alleged criminal leader. Investigations suggest she headed illicit activities in municipalities including Celaya, Salamanca, Villagrán, and Irapuato.

Authorities accuse her of involvement in drug trafficking, extortion, homicide, and organized crime. Her arrest appears connected to investigations following the earlier capture of Moisés Soto, identified as the head of an armed group called “Los Marros” or “La Marriza,” who is suspected of responsibility for a massacre at a soccer field in Salamanca.

Separately, authorities reported the arrest of Roberto Betanzo, alias “Beto,” an alleged leader of a Gulf Cartel cell, in an operation conducted with support from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and Mexico’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office, highlighting cross-border coordination against organized crime.

María Guadalupe N. will be presented before a judge, while security officials announced they will provide further details about the operation and related investigations in the coming hours.
