TULUM, Q. Roo. — The hotel zone of Tulum was the scene of a serious accident in which two foreign tourists were injured after losing control of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on the Tulum-Boca Paila highway, near the Azulik hotel.
The incident prompted the mobilization of emergency services after witnesses called for help to 911. Paramedics from Civil Protection arrived immediately and provided attention to the injured. One of the victims sustained multiple blows and contusions to the head from the impact with the pavement.
Both visitors were urgently transported to Costamed Tulum hospital, where specialist doctors are evaluating the severity of their injuries.
The ATV was left on the side of the road with considerable damage, while Traffic Police agents secured the area and regulated traffic to prevent another incident.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the causes of the accident, including the possibility of excessive speed or a lack of control while operating the vehicle on a busy stretch of highway.
This case reflects the frequent risks on the coastal highway of Tulum, where the combination of ATVs, automobiles, and cyclists presents a challenge for road safety, particularly for tourists unfamiliar with the road conditions.
