Isla Mujeres, Q. Roo.- The Municipal President of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting local youth education by distributing new computers to middle and higher education students. This initiative is part of the Computer Subsidy Programme.
The distribution event took place at the Green Dome, a recently renovated space intended for the benefit of local youth. Gómez Ricalde explained that the new computers are part of the Transforming Education, My Computer initiative, launched earlier this year. The aim of this initiative is to equip students with the necessary tools and materials to continue their education.
Gómez Ricalde also restated her dedication to improving Isla Mujeres through quality education in safe and suitable facilities, ongoing teacher training, and the promotion of values like honesty and respect. She emphasized the importance of providing essential resources, such as new computers.
In a heartfelt address to the students, the Municipal President encouraged them to persist with their studies, pursue their dreams, and remain resilient during challenging times. She assured them of her government's ongoing support. "I give you these new computers with all my heart. I am confident they will be invaluable in your new stage of schooling," she said.
The Director of Education of Isla Mujeres, Luz María Rodríguez Méndez, reported that 167 computers were distributed in the Insular Zone and 133 in the Continental Zone, making a total of 300 throughout the municipality. The Municipal Government covered 75% of the total cost of the computers, with the remaining 25% provided by the beneficiaries.
The Transforming Education, My Computer initiative complements the Transforming Education, My Backpack! initiative, which saw 4,000 new backpacks delivered to preschool and primary students before the start of the new school year.
