Assault Survivor Robert González Praises Eugenio Derbez’s ‘El juicio’ in Emotional Message

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The arrival of the series El juicio on Prime Video drew strong reactions from Mexican audiences, but few as personal as Robert González’s. For him, the drama starring Eugenio Derbez is not simply fiction but a painful mirror of the nearly decade-long legal battle he has fought since he was assaulted in Playa del Carmen. He recorded a video addressed to the actor and producer, and its honesty quickly spread across social media.

A Story That Echoed Real Life

In the production, Derbez plays a father seeking justice for his daughter within a system riddled with influence and power. González said he recognized in each episode elements identical to what he lived through after the brutal attack by Rodrigo Galán, known publicly as “Lord Cobarde.” Although the ten-year sentence against his attacker was upheld after recent appeals were dismissed, González said the emotional, physical and financial toll marked his life permanently.

A Decade of Pain

In his message, González shared intimate details about the lasting consequences of the attack. He said he was left with a permanent disability and that over the years he endured the loss of his son and his mother, as well as the end of his marriage. He also explained that much of his savings went to paying lawyers, and that he currently lives under constant medical treatment to manage his pain.

A Message That Took an Unexpected Turn

At first, González’s words appeared to be sharp criticism of the lead actor’s work, and he even questioned the awards the production has received. As the video went on, however, he clarified that the series fascinated him precisely because it bluntly captures the frustration of not finding an immediate happy ending. He therefore turned his complaint into praise, saying the entire team deserves every award possible for bringing these realities to the screen.

González closed by thanking the series’ team for putting into words what he himself could not express after years of impunity and legal obstacles.
