Armed Attack in Cobá Leaves One Injured, Another Kidnapped

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A violent incident recorded in the early morning hours caused alarm in the Maya community of Cobá. The locality is located about 44 kilometers from the municipal seat of Tulum.

According to unofficial information, a young man was injured by a firearm. Furthermore, another male was allegedly deprived of his liberty by armed subjects.

The initial reports indicate that the attack occurred near the ejido house. Residents in the southern area heard gunshots during the first hours of the day.

Given the situation, the so-called “red code” was activated. This protocol is applied when the use of firearms is confirmed. As a result, security forces were deployed to the area.

Unofficially, residents indicated that the injured young man is known as “Cuba.” He would be approximately 23 years old.

According to local accounts, he arrived a few months ago to work at the Hidalgo camp. After receiving gunshot wounds, he was assisted and transported for medical attention.

The second male was preliminarily identified as “Verdes.” He would be around 33 years old and would be originally from Cobá.

According to residents, he works in the archaeological zone. He was allegedly deprived of his liberty by armed men. His whereabouts remain unconfirmed.

The atmosphere in the community is one of concern and uncertainty. Neighbors avoided giving statements for fear of reprisals.
