Cancún, Mexico — The twelfth edition of Aqua Forum 2025 is underway in the heart of the Mexican Caribbean, bringing together professionals, manufacturers, and experts in water management. The event serves as a critical platform for innovation, sustainability, and collaborative action to address pressing water-related challenges.

A Gathering of Water Management Specialists

Luis Abaroa Lance, Director General of Grupo Spin, the organizing and sponsoring company of the event, stated that the forum features over 50 exhibitors specializing in all aspects of water management—from recreational use in pools and spas to wastewater treatment and human consumption.

“This forum is designed for everyone involved in the world of water. Here, you don’t just find equipment and chemicals—you also gain knowledge, partnerships, and concrete solutions,” Abaroa explained.

Innovations and Sustainable Practices

Over three days, the forum offers free training sessions focused on new technologies, energy savings, water conservation, and responsible chemical use. A key priority is promoting eco-friendly alternatives that enhance the economic efficiency of hotels and recreational centers without compromising environmental health.

Abaroa highlighted several innovations showcased this year, including new filters composed of anthracite and synthetic fibers that enable more efficient backwashing without wasting treated water. In the chemical sector, the focus is on formulas that are safer for humans and more effective in maintaining water quality.

“A swimming pool is used by people, not an industrial process. That’s why we must prioritize human health and ensure the water remains safe 24 hours a day,” he emphasized.

Addressing Water Contamination

One of the most pressing concerns in the region is water pollution caused by excessive sunscreen use. Abaroa stressed that this is a cultural issue that could be mitigated through simple actions, such as showering before entering a pool.

“It may sound trivial, but sunscreen is a serious pollutant. Raising awareness is part of our mission,” he said.

A Hub for Industry Stakeholders

The forum holds particular significance for the Mexican Caribbean, where tourism drives the economy and water demand is high. The event serves as a meeting point for hoteliers, club managers, water treatment experts, and manufacturers.

“Instead of visiting 50 different suppliers separately, attendees can engage with all of them in one place. It’s pure efficiency—saving time, money, and expanding knowledge,” Abaroa noted.

A Long-Term Investment

Abaroa underscored that investing in efficient technology should be viewed not as an expense but as a smart long-term decision.

“Many avoid investing to save a few cents, only to lose much more in the long run. We must focus on protecting pesos, not pennies. Investing in innovation safeguards health, the environment, and the economy,” he said.

“Let’s take care of water—it’s our most valuable resource, and we’re not giving it the attention it deserves. Technologies exist to help us save, reduce chemical use, and protect our health. We must adopt them and raise awareness.”
