Playa del Carmen — A man approximately 45 years of age was killed on Monday afternoon following an armed attack in the irregular In House neighborhood, located in the municipality of Playa del Carmen.
The incident occurred on Bahía de Corea street. According to initial reports, the victim was riding a motorcycle when he was intercepted by armed men, who shot him directly in the head.
After the attack, the assailants quickly escaped on another motorcycle, managing to evade authorities by disappearing into the gaps in the area.
Upon receiving the report, paramedics arrived at the scene to provide medical attention. However, after assessing the injured person, they confirmed he no longer had vital signs due to the severity of his injuries.
Municipal Police officers cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and notified the State Attorney General's Office to begin corresponding procedures and proceed with the removal of the body.
Unofficial information indicates the deceased allegedly engaged in extortion in the area, which points to a possible settling of scores between criminal groups.
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the events.
