CJNG Cartel Member Arrested in Cozumel

Cozumel — A man was arrested in Cozumel for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, with authorities linking him to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The arrest was the result of coordinated surveillance operations conducted by the Investigation Group of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Navy, the Mexican Army (Sedena), and the Municipal Police.

The incident took place at the intersection of Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue and Jaguar Street in the Nueva Generación neighborhood. At that location, authorities observed the individual, identified as Víctor Alonso N, handling several small, clear plastic bags containing a green, dried plant material consistent with marijuana. This observation led officers to conduct a preventive inspection.

Following the search, agents secured one clear plastic bag and thirteen ziploc-type bags containing marijuana, some of which bore distinctive labels. Authorities also located four doses of a substance with the characteristics of cocaine and two additional bags containing solid fragments similar to crack.

In addition to the narcotics, a red backpack, a cell phone, and a notebook with various notes were seized from the detainee. Víctor Alonso N and the seized evidence were transferred to the State Attorney General's Office to determine his legal status.

According to the SSC, some of the small bags containing the seized drugs had the phrase "FEM Operativo Yogurt" written on them. Authorities state this indicates the detained individual is part of the criminal structure of the CJNG. The initials "FEM" found on the bags refer to the "Special Forces of Mencho," and the "Yogurt operation" alludes to his alleged membership in the cell commanded by Abraham Jesús Ambriz Cano, alias "El Yogurt."

This cell is identified by federal authorities as a dangerous and violent armed wing of the CJNG. Intelligence reports characterize it as a group that recruits elite Mexican uniformed personnel, as well as Colombian and Guatemalan mercenaries specializing in the handling of high-powered weaponry and war tactics. Reports have long confirmed that this faction of the CJNG operates in various parts of Quintana Roo, including the island of Cozumel.
