Cancún, Quintana Roo — Three survivors of childhood sexual abuse from the Colegio Ecab in Cancún appeared before the Judicial Power of the State of Quintana Roo today. The hearing, for the formulation of charges against their alleged aggressors, marks a significant step in a case first reported over a year ago.

The reported incidents occurred between 1987 and 2000, while the victims were young girls and students at the prestigious educational institution. According to the complaint, the victims were subjected to various forms of manipulation and sexual abuse by their teacher, Enrique V.G., allegedly with the complicity of the then-principal, Camila N.

A Long-Awaited Day in Court

The survivors, in a joint statement, expressed the weight of their long silence. "For years we remained silent out of fear, out of shame, because of the power the aggressor represented," they stated. "Today we speak because we deserve justice, because what happened to us was not our fault, and because we understood we were not the only ones."

The formal complaint was initially filed in March 2023. Since then, the survivors describe the legal process as long, painful, and full of obstacles, marked by institutional re-victimization and emotional exhaustion. Despite these challenges, today's hearing represents a further step in their pursuit of justice and the potential to set a historic precedent for the protection of girls and adolescent victims of sexual violence in school settings.

A Quest for Justice, Not Vengeance

The three women have chosen to support each other through this process, finding strength in solidarity and mutual support. They clarified the intent behind their pursuit of legal action. "We are not seeking vengeance. We are seeking justice, and not only for ourselves, but for every girl within reach of our aggressor. He is a predator, and he remains free," they affirmed.

In a country where the majority of child abuse victims do not report the crimes, the act of reaching a courtroom constitutes an act of resistance and a symbolic victory against impunity. The date, October 28, 2025, not only marks a judicial event but is also the result of months of struggle, of fear transformed into courage, and the desire that no one else should have to endure the same experience in silence.

Breaking a Decades-Long Silence

The survivors voiced their belief in the possibility of a just outcome. "We are here because we believe that justice is indeed possible. We are doing this for ourselves, but also for all those who have not been able to speak and for every girl in danger. Because we are no longer afraid to be heard."

With their testimony, the survivors of Colegio Ecab are breaking a silence that lasted for decades, bringing to the forefront an unresolved issue: the guarantee of justice, reparation, and truth for victims of childhood sexual abuse in educational institutions.
