Abandoned Car Found Linked to Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Cancun
Cancun, Quintana Roo — A black Nissan Sentra found abandoned Monday morning on a dirt road in Cancun’s Supermanzana 214 neighborhood may be connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist over the weekend, authorities said.
Residents alerted emergency services after noticing the vehicle had been sitting for hours and was beginning to be stripped for parts. Police arriving at the scene observed damage to the windshield and found beer cans and bottles inside the car.
The investigation gained momentum after security cameras from the C5 surveillance complex captured a man abandoning the vehicle and walking away through nearby streets.
Initial reports suggested the motorcyclist had simply lost control and skidded, but surveillance video shows a black car speeding away from the scene after the crash, which occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Arco Vial and Costa Maya Avenue.
The vehicle was seized by state prosecutors and taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities continue to search for the driver believed to be involved in the motorcyclist’s death.
