Two students from Region 236 in Benito Juárez were rushed to Cancún General Hospital “Jesús Kumate” after displaying symptoms of poisoning. Health officials have confirmed that both individuals are stable and under medical supervision.

During the admission process, there were identified failures in the hospital's security protocol. The security staff delayed the entry of one of the students, prompting the hospital to dismiss the guards involved. Measures are now being taken to enhance their training and improve emergency response times.

In response to the incident, the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Education (SEQ) has launched an investigation to determine the cause and strengthen their substance abuse prevention programs among students.

The causes of poisoning can vary and depend on a multitude of factors. Common causes include exposure to chemical substances, often through viral challenges on social media platforms, ingestion of contaminated or spoiled food, misuse of medications and drugs, and improper handling of household cleaning products.

While the exact cause of the students' poisoning has not been confirmed, it is crucial that a thorough investigation is conducted to identify the source and prevent future incidents.

Preventing poisoning requires taking precautions in various aspects of daily life. These include washing hands before handling food and after using the restroom, storing perishable food in cool and dry places, not consuming food past its expiration date, and thoroughly cooking food, especially meats, poultry, and eggs. Consumption of unpasteurized dairy products should also be avoided.

For students, it is recommended to avoid consuming food or drinks of unknown origin to prevent similar incidents.
