Business organizations have unveiled plans for the first-ever Quintana Roo 2024 Sustainability Forum. The event, themed "Challenges and Opportunities", is scheduled to take place on November 19th at the Moon Palace Cancún Hotel, from 8:00am to 3:00pm. The forum's agenda will focus on environmental and sustainability issues.
Participants can expect a variety of panels, presentations, and discussions on social, economic, and environmental themes. Key topics will include urban development, beach restoration and protection, water management, and other pressing issues such as coral bleaching in the Mesoamerican Reef and species conservation.
The forum will also showcase success stories and best practices in sustainability. These will be drawn from programs and projects by organizations such as the civil association Convivencia, Group Palace, BBVA, and Group Xcaret. The goal is to share these practices so they can be adopted across different business sectors in the state.
Patricia de La Peña, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the Original Group, noted that while "Sustainable Week" is an annual event in the group's hotels and corporations, this forum is a response to the need to enhance the commitment to natural resource conservation across various sectors.
Javier Olvera Silveira, President of the Caribbean Business Coordinating Council (CCE), stated that the event aims to foster dialogue and awareness about the social and environmental challenges facing the world and the state. The forum also seeks to present innovative ideas and initiatives to balance social development, economic growth, and environmental conservation. He emphasized the need for continued growth, more partnerships, and impactful steps towards sustainability.
The forum will conclude with a summary document outlining the results, a proposed work plan, and commitments from participating businesses to support environmental conservation.
