As part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Municipal DIF of Benito Juárez is emphasizing the significance of the "Be The Match" campaign. This initiative, active in the municipality for a year, has been instrumental in saving a Cancún resident's life.

"Be The Match México" is a non-profit organization that aims to connect patients with hematological diseases to selfless stem cell donors, thereby enabling the necessary transplants for their treatment.

The organization is vital in broadening the chances of finding a suitable donor, not only among family members but also on a global scale. In fact, only 30% of patients requiring a transplant find a donor within their family. The remaining 70% must rely on the global registry of Be The Match.

To qualify as a donor, individuals must be aged between 18 and 44, be in good health, and not have any blood-borne diseases. The registration process is straightforward: a mouth swab sample is collected by rubbing the inside of the cheek for 10 seconds on each side. These swabs, along with the potential donor's personal information, are stored in an envelope and added to the organization's global database.
