The father of a young man who was fatally stabbed last Monday in a rooming house in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood is seeking justice. The alleged perpetrators were arrested on the day of the crime but were released the following morning after posting bail.
The incident took place at 8 p.m. in a rooming house on 110th Avenue, between 35th and 40th streets. The victim, a young man, was accused by the wife of the rooming house owner of indecent exposure while he was using his cell phone inside his home. The woman relayed the incident to her husband who, along with his nephew, a private security guard, and another tenant, confronted the young man at the entrance of the rooming house. During the confrontation, one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the young man.
The victim's father recounted, "My son had left with my wife to go shopping. As soon as they stepped out the door, they were stopped, and my son was thrown to the ground and stabbed."
The victim, 23-year-old Gerson Velázquez Matute, was rushed to the General Hospital by his family, where he succumbed to his injuries around 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Despite the arrest of two individuals in connection with the incident, they were held for only two hours at the Prosecutor's Office. They reportedly posted a bail of 70,000 pesos and were subsequently released.
