Mara Lezama Espinosa, the Governor of Quintana Roo, and the Secretary of the Navy are joining forces to build a specialized sargassum ship. This initiative is in response to the ongoing issue of seaweed accumulation on the region's beaches.
The planned vessel will be equipped with a sargassum collection belt and a crane capable of handling weights up to 2.6 tons. It will also include all necessary systems and equipment for efficient seaweed management.
The ship is expected to measure 15 meters in length and 5.5 meters in width, with a load capacity of 20 tons. The construction process is projected to take approximately four months.
The Governor of Quintana Roo emphasized that this partnership signifies a step towards a more effective approach to sargassum management. It also demonstrates a commitment to preserving and protecting the region's coastal areas.
