This summer, Profeco, the Consumer Defense Office, will be maintaining customer service modules at the Cancún and Tulum airports. Their aim is to monitor and intervene in any situations that may negatively impact passengers. This proactive approach allows Profeco to address any irregularities as they occur, preventing the need for passengers to file complaints with federal authorities.

At the Cancún airport, which sees the highest number of operations, Profeco assists approximately 25 people per day. This assistance can range from providing advice and consultations to handling complaints. Profeco's role is to mediate with the airlines and ensure that consumers do not experience any adverse effects.

The majority of passenger complaints relate to flight overbooking. Profeco pays particular attention to these complaints, ensuring that airlines provide immediate responses to passengers who have purchased tickets for specific destinations.

This hands-on approach has significantly reduced the number of complaints filed with Profeco. Resolving issues on the spot results in satisfied travelers who can continue on to their destinations. Passengers who do not receive attention in Cancún often have to return to their place of origin to proceed with any formal complaints.

Profeco also operates at the Felipe Carrillo Puerto airport in Tulum. This new airport already serves both national and international routes and has transported over 500,000 passengers since it opened.

Having a service module in the airport terminals is crucial not only for addressing any potential abuses, but also for guiding consumers.
