Cancún Taxi Driver Threatens Motorists

Cancún, Mexico — A video of a taxi driver violently threatening a pair of motorists in the city of Cancún has gone viral on social media. The driver threatened the couple with a “levantón,” a term referring to a forced abduction, causing widespread alarm on social media and among Cancún residents who are demanding improvements to road safety.

The incident, which was captured on video, shows the taxi driver launching into a aggressive verbal assault against the two drivers. In the recording, the driver can be heard threatening to make a phone call to have them “lifted,” which instilled terror in the couple. The victims immediately filed a formal complaint related to the event.

According to the victims, the conflict began because the taxi driver was traveling in the wrong direction. The footage shows and records the taxi driver beginning to insult the couple and then escalating to the threat of abduction.

During the confrontation, the threatened couple limited their response to filming the incident from inside their vehicle while the taxi driver continued to argue with them. The driver was simultaneously holding a telephone call, which increased the fear and tension for the motorists, especially as the insults intensified. This escalation led to the video’s rapid spread online.

Users on social media platforms quickly identified the taxi by its economic number, 0496, which facilitated the widespread dissemination of the video. These users are also demanding that appropriate measures be taken to improve security.

The Taxi Union has not yet issued any statement regarding these events. However, discussion continues to grow on social media concerning the safety and conduct of Cancún’s taxi drivers.
