Cancun — Plaza de la Reforma was filled with color, tradition, and national pride during the ceremony for the 215th anniversary of the Cry of Independence, led by municipal president Ana Paty Peralta. More than 22,000 people gathered to chant the rallying cries and wave flags during an evening that combined tradition, music, and technology.
The official protocol began at 10:50 p.m. with the reading of the Sentiments of the Nation, led by the Secretary General of the City Council, Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, and the singing of the anthems of Quintana Roo and Mexico.
The Cry and the National Flag
"Long live the Independence of Mexico! Long live the heroes and heroines who gave us our homeland! Long live Cancun, long live Quintana Roo, and long live Mexico!" exclaimed the mayor in a call that echoed through the crowd.
The ceremony included a symbolic moment: for the first time, the military color guard delivered the National Flag to the municipal authority from the hands of a woman, Lieutenant Cassandra Saavedra of the 64th Infantry Battalion.
Protocolary Act and Patriotic Symbols in the Sky
Afterward, the sky of Cancun was illuminated with a show of 170 drones that formed images of the tricolor flag, the bell, the national eagle, and even local symbols like "El Ceviche."
The artistic program included jarocha music, folkloric ballet, mariachi, and the participation of local talents, in addition to the humorous touch of Tila María Sesto. The party culminated with the stellar performance of Gloria Trevi, who energized the public with songs like "Cinco minutos," "Todos me miran," and "El recuento de los daños," closing with energy a night that will remain in the memory of Cancun.
