Mérida, Yucatán — The Federal Government's Ministry of Economy has awarded the "Hecho en México" (Made in Mexico) distinction to the Maya Train project. The recognition honors the railway as a work constructed with Mexican talent and by Mexican hands.
The head of the National Brand Plan at the Ministry of Economy, Bárbara Botello Santibáñez, stated that the Maya Train represents the vision of a modern Mexico that honors its roots. "This project connects the rural producer with the city visitor, the artisan with the international consumer, and the student with new opportunities to build their future," she said.
In turn, the director of the Maya Train, Óscar David Lozano Águila, reported that from December 2023 to September 2025, one million six hundred thousand people have traveled on the train, demonstrating support for this major emblematic work for the nation.
"The Maya Train is not only a transportation work; it is a mirror in which our identity is reflected. On its rails travels the millennia-old history of the peninsula, the voices of our original peoples, the ingenuity of our engineers, and the pride of a country that believes in itself," he expressed.
During his address, the Governor of Yucatán and host of the event, Joaquín Díaz Mena, detailed that the "Hecho en México" distinction has a history that began in 1978 and in this year, 2025, reached a very important point by becoming an official certification mark linked to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
"Today, more than 600 companies and almost 2,000 products have been certified with this mark, which opens the door for our producers, merchants, and entrepreneurs to have greater visibility in international markets," he stated.
"That the Maya Train carries this mark engraved on its cars means that Mexico trusts in its own talent and bets on its people. With this certification, it is not only recognized as a great railway project but as a symbol of national identity with the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo," he asserted.
In his address, the Governor of Tabasco, Javier May Rodríguez, highlighted that the presentation of the "Hecho en México" distinction represents a tribute to the effort of thousands of Mexican men and women who, even in the midst of the pandemic, managed to advance this monumental work while the world stood still.
