Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A small crocodile startled swimmers this Saturday morning at Punta Esmeralda beach, appearing near the shoreline and provoking a mix of awe and fear among visitors. The sighting occurred around 8:00 a.m. at the beach access point located behind the Nicte Ha and Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhoods.

Some witnesses managed to photograph the specimen as it attempted to cross toward the cenote area. The reptile's presence became a topic of conversation among the beachgoers, as this is not an isolated incident. This type of fauna is part of the area's natural ecosystem, where the cenote flows into the sea and serves as a habitat for species such as this.

According to municipal authorities who arrived at the scene, the crocodile's reaction is instinctive. When it detects the proximity of people on the shore, it typically moves toward deeper waters to seek shelter. They recommended that visitors not approach or attempt to interact with the animal, as it could feel threatened and react defensively.

Civil Protection personnel urged the public to immediately report this type of case to the lifeguards who maintain surveillance on the beaches.
