Cancún, Quintana Roo — A member of the National Guard was admitted to the General Hospital "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" in the early hours of Saturday after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg, allegedly inflicted by one of his comrades. The incident occurred while both officers were on duty at the facilities of the Cancún International Airport.
According to initial reports, the events took place around 2:30 a.m. inside the corporation's base, following an apparent argument between the two officers. The sound of the gunshot alerted other elements who were outside the base, and they immediately responded. They found the wounded officer on the ground, while the alleged perpetrator was holding the injured leg. The firearm was left abandoned to the side of the location.
Paramedics from a private ambulance service present at the airport transported the injured man to the General Hospital, where he was treated and reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.
Authorities have not yet revealed details regarding the motive that sparked the conflict between the officers. The alleged aggressor was detained by his own comrades and subsequently handed over to the Military Police for corresponding investigations.
The competent authorities have initiated procedures to determine responsibilities and clarify the facts. This incident raises concerns about the internal security and protocols of the National Guard, as it involves a confrontation between elements in the full performance of their duty within the strategic facilities of an international airport.
The federal corporation is maintaining secrecy regarding the causes of the altercation and has initiated an internal review to reinforce control mechanisms and prevent conflicts among its personnel.
