PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX — Upon completing the first month of a new security phase, the Government of Playa del Carmen, headed by Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, through the Secretariat of Citizen Security directed by Carlos Montesinos García, is reporting more than 130 individuals placed at the disposal of the authorities.
The arrests include 75 for crimes such as those against public health, domestic violence, and injuries, among others, with an additional 55 resulting from traffic incidents.
Furthermore, authorities secured a total of 29 vehicles, 14 cell phones, 2 firearms, magazines, live cartridges, and bladed weapons, as well as over 100 kilograms of suspected narcotics in various forms. These results reflect the ongoing work of surveillance and prevention in neighborhoods and high-tourist-traffic zones of the municipality.
As a significant point, the recovery of vehicles and motorcycles reported stolen stands out, allowing for the restitution of property to private citizens. These types of actions, stemming from preventive operations and patrols, strengthen citizen confidence in police work.
Among the most relevant cases is the detention of a criminal cell from Mexico City with criminal records, as well as the participation of the Playa del Carmen SSC, in coordination with the State Attorney General's Office and the Interinstitutional Group, in an operation that culminated with the arrest of eight individuals belonging to a group generating violence. Military-exclusive weaponry from the Army, Navy, and Air Force was seized from them, in addition to drugs and magazines.
During the same month, the Secretariat also reinforced its presence in public spaces and mass events. The participation of the Social Proximity Police, the Preventive and Tourist Police, the GEAVIG, paramedics from the ERUM, and K-9 units was notable; they guaranteed security during the closing of Youth Month with a concert by Yerimua, an event that gathered thousands of young people in a safe and trustworthy environment.
Furthermore, social proximity work has been promoted across all police areas, bringing the institution closer to citizens through actions of prevention, attention, and trust. At the same time, coordination of interinstitutional operations has been strengthened with the support of the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of National Defense, the National Guard, the State Secretariat of Citizen Security, and the State Attorney General's Office, consolidating a common front in the security strategy.
Secretary Carlos Alberto Montesinos García emphasized that these achievements are part of the new security strategy implemented in Playa del Carmen, based on three pillars: prevention, proximity, and a firm stance against crime. "With the support of President Estefanía Mercado, we will continue strengthening the security of our city with closeness, discipline, and results," he stated.
With these actions, the Secretariat of Citizen Security of the Government of Playa del Carmen reaffirms its commitment to work every day for the peace of mind of families and visitors, building a safer and more peaceful municipality.
