Cancún, Mexico — The Mexican Red Cross in Quintana Roo has called on the public to participate in the "Todo México salvando vidas" (All Mexico Saving Lives) race, scheduled for this Sunday, September 7th, at 7:00 hours in Cancún Park.
The institution's communications coordinator, José Juan Rivera, reported that few spots remain for registration in this edition, which includes two modalities: a 2.5-kilometer walk and a 5-kilometer run, both in an open category for all ages.
The registration fee is 300 pesos and includes a t-shirt, runner's number, medal, and hydration. The funds raised will be used to cover the operating expenses of the local delegation, particularly the ambulance service, which provides over 11,000 free transfers per year in Cancún.
Interview
In an interview, Rivera explained that each dispatch of an ambulance unit costs an average of 1,500 pesos for fuel, medical supplies, and personnel. Therefore, activities like this race are essential for maintaining emergency care services.
Furthermore, he called on the public to avoid making false emergency calls, which account for up to 30 reports per day and affect the institution's response capacity.
The Red Cross in Cancún also provides low-cost medical services, with over 91,000 annual consultations. It offers general consultations for 50 pesos, orthopedics for 450 pesos, X-rays, laboratory services, dentistry, and clinical podiatry, as well as first aid courses and swimming lessons.
A special course for youth aged 8 to 17 will begin on September 20th, focused on first aid, leadership, and rescue activities.
"We form committed citizens from an early age," emphasized Rivera, while inviting the community to join as volunteers or participate in the institution's activities.
