Chetumal, MX — The federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, has ruled out the possibility of Holbox and Felipe Carrillo Puerto being considered for inclusion in the Magic Towns program, as the federal government is currently engaged in a process of reclassifying the existing list of 177 towns that already hold the designation.
During her visit to Chetumal as the presidential representative for the third state of the state address by Governor Mara Lezama, Rodríguez Zamora explained that this coming October will see the determination of a new category for the 177 localities currently considered Magic Towns. This reclassification is intended to provide tourists with clear information about the type of infrastructure available and the services offered in each location.
"For the time being, there will be no more Magic Towns. In October, we will define which of the existing ones will be category 'A', 'Double A', or 'Triple A', so that the tourist knows what infrastructure is there and what experiences to expect," she insisted.
She added that the new classifications will be announced during the National Magic Towns Tianguis (market), scheduled to take place from November 13 to 16 in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
During her stay, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) confirmed the federal government's full support for Quintana Roo to strengthen its position as the country's leading tourism powerhouse. She noted the state receives 80 percent of the country's visitors and boasts a large number of hotel rooms and a diverse destination offering, which are the primary factors that incentivize travelers to choose it among many options.
Furthermore, she stated that community tourism will be promoted through the National Guide of Community Experiences, which is set to be presented next week in Quintana Roo. This initiative aims to leverage the use of the Maya Train, which already provides access to communities that were previously difficult to reach.
