COZUMEL, QRoo — With the onset of the low tourism season in September, municipal authorities in Cozumel are confident that sports will become the island's primary economic driver.

Elias Farah Ké, the municipal Director of Tourism, reported that despite the expected decrease in visitors during this period, two international events are anticipated to generate significant economic spillover.

The Ironman 70.3 will take place on September 21, bringing more than 8,400 visitors, including 2,800 triathletes who will compete on the island.

Subsequently, the AsTri Cozumel 2025 Triathlon will be held on September 27, gathering 5,400 participants and their companions.

Farah Ké also announced that during this time, the cruise ship Star of the Seas, the largest and most recent vessel from the Royal Caribbean line, will arrive. This is expected to reinforce the flow of visitors and benefit local tourism service providers.
