Cancún, Mexico — The Twenty-Second National Congress of the Mexican Association of Women Entrepreneurs (AMEXME) is underway in Cancún, bringing together more than one thousand members from across the country. The event aims to promote female leadership in business, generate collaborative networks, and highlight the role of women in economic development, with an estimated economic impact of 100 million pesos.

Governor Mara Lezama highlighted the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs during the event. AMEXME currently has a presence in 29 of Mexico's 32 states, with more than 75 chapters distributed throughout the national territory, making it one of the most extensive networks of women entrepreneurs at the national and international level. Quintana Roo is one of the states with several representations of this organization in its municipalities.

Ivett Bonifaz Famania, the national president of AMEXME, shared that according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), there were 74,640 active businesses registered in Quintana Roo in 2024, of which 30 percent are headed by women.

"That is to say we have 22,392 companies with female leadership. This is encouraging; however, if we are talking about 30 percent, it means we are still below the national average. But we are making progress, and that is why we cannot stop, and that is why we continue to push for more women," she stated.

A total of 60 chapters are participating in the congress, which will be held in Cancún until August 30. In her address, Governor Mara Lezama noted that AMEXME is the only Mexican association affiliated with the World Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Business (FCEM), an international organization that brings together women entrepreneurs from 120 countries.

"The Association seeks to empower women by offering them continuous training to strengthen their leadership, and we celebrate and applaud that," she said.

The congress includes master conferences, business panels, and networking meetings.
