TULUM, Mexico — María de los Ángeles Medina Basulto was crowned Miss Independence 2025 in Tulum during a contest that highlighted civic values and Mexican traditions, marking the start of the patriotic festivities in the municipality.

The event, held at the open-air theater of the Parque Museo de la Cultura Maya, was attended by the director general of Education, Nilvia Lezama. She emphasized that such activities strengthen civic values and Mexican traditions while providing a platform for expression and development for the young women of the municipality.

The competition commenced with a runway presentation by the six contestants, who demonstrated their poise before the jury and the audience. Subsequently, they showcased regional Mexican costumes and shared details about their lives, including their professions, hobbies, and goals.

The third stage of the event featured evening gowns, during which the contestants answered questions related to patriotic values, testing their confidence, expression, and public speaking skills. The jury evaluated aspects such as stage presence, mastery of topics, body language, and speaking ability, leading to a difficult deliberation.

Amid applause and ovations, the winners were announced:

  • Miss Independence 2025: María de los Ángeles Medina Basulto
  • Miss Homeland: Fátima Savina Ramos Barrios
  • Miss Liberty: Silvia Vázquez Morales

All three winners received personalized crowns, distinctive sashes, and cash prizes intended to support their personal and professional development.

This contest officially inaugurated the patriotic celebrations in Tulum, promoted by the municipal government led by Diego Castañón Trejo, with the objective of fostering national pride and honoring the history of Mexico.
