QUINTANA ROO — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa reported that authorities are maintaining surveillance over a potential low-pressure zone in the Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa, which currently has a 20 percent probability of cyclonic development over the next seven days. The governor called on the public to follow only official channels to avoid rumors and to remain prepared.
This advisory comes within the framework of the current Atlantic hurricane season, prompting Civil Protection authorities to insist on the importance of paying attention to meteorological reports and taking precautions. The area under monitoring does not currently represent a direct risk to Quintana Roo; however, prevention is key given the possibility that it could develop in the coming days.
Weather in Quintana Roo and Atlantic Monitoring
According to the State Coordination of Civil Protection (Coeproc), the weather in Quintana Roo will be hot with a partially cloudy sky and increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. Intervals of showers are forecast with periods of heavy rain accompanied by electrical activity. Conditions will remain very hot during the day and warm to hot at night, with wind gusts of up to 50 km/h in coastal areas.
Maritime Conditions and Cyclones
No active tropical cyclones are reported in the Caribbean Sea; however, Coeproc recommends taking precautions during aquatic activities and navigation due to elevated waves and wind gusts that will occur during the day.
Residents and visitors are finally advised to stay hydrated and use light clothing in light colors. They should also avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during hours of peak radiation.
