Cancún, Mexico — Elements of the Grupo Orión, part of the Quintana Roo State Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), have detained a taxi driver for the alleged crimes of disobedience and resistance. During subsequent inquiries, it was confirmed the detainee was the subject of a prior criminal complaint for robbery.

The incident occurred while officers were conducting patrols to prevent crime in the city. While traveling on Avenida Talleres, they observed the taxi driver, identified as Jhonathan Alfredo "N," pass through a red traffic light, an action that nearly caused an accident.

Due to this maneuver, which endangered the safety of other motorists and pedestrians, the uniformed officers signaled for him to stop. The driver, however, ignored their instructions and attempted to evade them.

After a brief pursuit, the vehicle, a white Nissan March with green stripes bearing public service license plates, was intercepted in Super Manzana 200, between Avenida 149 and Calle 151 Norte. The driver became aggressive and physically resisted the officers, leading to his apprehension. The vehicle was also seized.

The detainee was turned over to the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), where an investigation file will be opened. According to ministerial sources, the initial charge against him is related to an ongoing complaint for robbery.

The taxi driver now faces a legal process where it will be determined if there is sufficient evidence to formally charge him for both offenses. In such cases, the ministerial authority can request precautionary measures, including justified pre-trial detention, particularly when the accused has prior complaints. A control judge will decide his legal status in the coming hours.

The driver was operating a taxi affiliated with the Andrés Quintana Roo union at the time of his arrest.
