QUINTANA ROO, Mexico — As part of its efforts to support the community, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in Quintana Roo has launched the AA mobile application. The app is designed to help individuals seeking assistance locate nearby authorized groups that follow the organization's methodology.
Roger, a member of AA Quintana Roo, explained that the application allows users to identify available groups within a radius of up to two kilometers from their location, facilitating access to immediate and reliable support. In the northern zone of Quintana Roo, an estimated 900 AA groups exist, all of which are free and operate on a voluntary assistance basis.
According to the Mexican Observatory for Mental Health and Drug Consumption, Quintana Roo holds the third-highest rate of excessive alcohol consumption nationally, with 40.5% of its population between 12 and 65 years of age affected. The state ranks only behind Jalisco, at 44.4%, and Nayarit, at 41.6%. This data underscores the importance of initiatives like the new application in combating alcoholism.
In a separate matter, Jaime, another member of AA Quintana Roo, reported that from August 22 to 24, AA Quintana Roo will hold its Area Congress at the facilities of the Cancún Taxi Union. The event is open to the public and is expected to draw up to 700 attendees. This activity aims to reinforce prevention and the fight against alcoholism and other addictions, further consolidating the organization's commitment to the community.
