Cozumel, Mexico — An American crocodile measuring approximately 2.90 meters was safely captured and relocated to its natural habitat on Saturday after being discovered near the southern coastal highway of the island. The operation was initiated following a citizen report, which prompted a swift response from emergency services.

Rescue and Relocation Efforts

Personnel from Civil Protection and Firefighters arrived at the scene and successfully secured the reptile using established protocols. The crocodile sustained no injuries during the operation and posed no threat to local residents. Wildlife specialists conducted a health evaluation and confirmed the animal was in good condition.

The relocation was carried out with support from the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) and Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA). The crocodile was transported to the mangrove area of Punta Sur, where it was released without incident.

Authorities Urge Public Caution

Municipal officials emphasized the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding wildlife. They reminded the public to avoid attempting to capture or approach wild animals and to report sightings to the proper authorities.
