Cancún, Mexico — On September 27, 2025, Cancún will become the focal point of Latin American tourism as it hosts the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) in celebration of World Tourism Day. Known as the "Oscars of Tourism," the event is expected to draw approximately 450 dignitaries, including tourism secretaries from Mexico and Latin America, as well as executives from international tourism companies.

A Global Stage for Tourism Excellence

The ceremony, which will be broadcast worldwide, presents a unique opportunity to showcase Cancún and Quintana Roo as premier tourist destinations, according to Miguel Montes de Oca, Director of Tourism Promotion for the Municipal Tourism Secretariat.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognize excellence in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries, covering categories such as destinations, hotels, and airlines. Winners are selected through votes from industry professionals and the general public, making the awards a globally recognized seal of quality.

Cancún, as the host of the Latin American edition, aims to reinforce its reputation after winning four awards in 2024, including "Leading Beach Destination in Mexico" and "Leading Meetings & Conference Destination in Mexico and Central America." This year, the city is nominated in categories such as Best Beach Destination, Best Business Destination, and Best Airport in Central America.

Quintana Roo has secured multiple nominations for the 2025 WTA, with Cancún, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and the Ruta de los Cenotes in Puerto Morelos standing out as contenders.

The event underscores Cancún’s continued prominence in the global tourism industry, further solidifying its status as a top-tier destination.
